“Everyone is trying to accomplish something big, not realizing that life is made up of little things.”

It’s Friyay lovelies. A good day. A day I have been looking forward to since my boss told me I didn’t have to come in. It completely changed my mood for the rest of the week. Today is my day and I haven’t had one of those in a long time. I have no where to go, nothing I have to do, and no one I have to see. Everything I do today is because I choose to do it. It’s magical really. Who knew days like this existed?
Its the happiness I have gained from having one small day off that has reinforced my belief that everyone should enjoy the little things. Sometimes we over look them because we want something better and believe we deserve something better. You may be right, but that doesn’t mean this little great thing cannot contribute to your happiness.
We live in a world where every day is a mystery. We don’t even know if we will even wake to see the next day, let alone what it may bring us. Completely random events may occur that could change the course of our lives forever and those events may be good or bad. We can’t control everything that happens to us, but we can control how we react to them.
So with uncertainty lying ahead, my advice would be this:
- That candy bar you saved for cheat day? Enjoy it.
- That $5 bill you found in your laundry? Keep it.
- Your family coming over for the day? Take pictures.
- Your favorite show has a marathon today? Make an impression on the couch.
- Your favorite team going to the quarter finals of the tournament today? Talk crap to the competitors. (Go Vols)
- You have the day off? Cherish it because these days are a dime a dozen.
Do all of these things with a smile because life is made up of these little things. There to make a bad week a little better, or a stressful day into one of bliss. These are the things that make or break people.
So today, I am watching some softball, drinking some tea, playing some Mortal Kombat (Who’s Next?), and might even cook today because today was one of my little things, and I don’t plan on taking it for granted.

Greetings! Very helpful advice within this
article! It’s the little changes that make the biggest changes.
Thanks for sharing!
I love this! And I really love that quote. It really is the little things that we look back on and realize they were the big things after all! 🙂 Lovely perspective!
One thing- in your last point you say off days are a dime a dozen. “A dime a dozen” means they’re very frequent and no big deal, so might pick a different phrase or say they aren’t a dime a dozen! Just an observation. Great post!
I couldn’t refrain from commenting. Very well written!
